ICID has been organizing its flagship triennial event International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage since 1951. The ICID triennial Congresses are organized to discuss and evaluate the upcoming and dynamic changes within the water sector in the entire world. The 1st ICID Congress was held in 1951 in Delhi. So far, ICID has held 23 Triennial Congresses, the most recent one being, the – 23rd ICID Congress held in Mexico City in the month of October 2017. Further, the 24th ICID Congress is scheduled to be held in Adelaide, Australia in October 2022.
The International Executive Council (IEC) is the highest decision-making body of ICID. It is vested with the management of the affairs of ICID. All matters of policy that may be initiated or sponsored by any member National Committee or Office Bearer or by the Management Board comes under its purview. It may itself initiate and determine or otherwise advise and lay down any policies, decisions pertaining to the matters of strategic importance. IEC meetings are held annually usually before the respective year's flagship event like ICID Congress and WIF.
The 25th ICID Congress and the 75th Meeting of the IEC are scheduled to be held in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (India) during 6th to 13th November 2023. The ICID Congress is being held in India after a gap of about 6 decades. The events are being organized with the collaborative efforts of INCID, Central Water Commission (Ministry of Jal Shakti, Govt of India), Water Resources Department - State Govt of Andhra Pradesh, Acharya N G Ranga Agricultural University, Guntur (Andhra Pradesh) and ICID.
The 24th ICID Congress is scheduled to be held in Adelaide, Australia in October 2022 and India will be hosting the 25th edition of the ICID Congress. To give vide global publicity to India’s upcoming event, it is planned to have an INCID Stall during the 24th Congress at Adelaide, Australia.
The Conclave is proposed to be held in the form of a dialogue to deliberate upon the water security of India with eminent persons and thought leaders in the area of water resources. In view of the multidimensionality of the issue of water security, a total of 13 potential topics have been identified for deliberating the water security aspects pertaining to the country.
It is envisaged to publish the proceedings of the dialogue in the form of an edited book to give a permanent nature to the thoughts expressed by various experts. Further, resource persons for the potential topics have been identified and they are expected to make presentation as well as write a chapter on their respective topic, with the perspective of water security of India.
As an outcome of the discussion held among CWC, ICID, INCID and NWDA, a Conclave on “Water Security of India” has been planned as a 1½ day Side Event on 1st – 2nd Nov, 2022 during the 7th India Water Week (IWW) (1st – 5th Nov, 2022), to be organized by INCID, CWC & ICID and Prof Asit Biswas, a renowned water expert as main speaker.

NWA Pune & INCID have joined hands for to develop and launch an online National Certificate Course on Participatory Irrigation Management (NCCPIM). NCCPIM is aimed to fulfill the long-standing need for PIM literacy among farmers and government field functionaries engaged in implementing PIM through the formation and strengthening of water user associations.
The online course will be effected thorough NWA Pune in association with the Indian Network on Participatory Irrigation Management (IndiaNPIM). The design, preparation and delivery of the training modules has been undertaken by IndiaNPIM and the course including all the course material has been hosted on the Moodle LMS of NWA (www.nwapune.gov.in).
Demo course on NCCPIM in Hindi & English mediums separately have been conducted for farmers to check the veracity and responsiveness of the website. No issues have been reported by the farmers and 90% of the farmers were able to finish the complete course in 10 days without any hurdle. NWA Pune has also conducted demo courses on the portal to check the process of registration and the responsiveness of the portal.
INCID is having deliberations with the stakeholders including NWA Pune and IndiaNPIM to discuss the schedule, modalities and arrangement for the launch ceremony of the online course.
